Radio 1 Established 1967 (2CD)

Had high hopes for this when it was first announced and have to say that overall it is as good as expected. Not a big fan of Calvin Harris's usual stuff and was not disappointed with being able to carry on that tradition - likewise the Kaiser Chiefs, Mika and Mark Ronson (his inclusion is utterly pointless) were quickly eliminated from the tracks my ipod but the rest are really strong, with the exception of the Raconteurs take on Teenage Kicks. Its as if Radio 1 were struggling to find someone to take that year and found a copy of them doing the song from some old bootleg. Jack White doesn't even sing it so it could just be any old band doing a routine work out in their basement! Stand out tracks are Keane, Klaxons, Stereophonics, Foo Fighters, The Enemy, Pigeon Detectives and - surprisingly for me as I usually hate both acts - Lily Allen and the Gossip.

Oh anyone who's disappointed with The Streets' Your Song is a fool - what were you expecting? It's Mike Skinner - of course he's not singing it in tune! He can't sing!!! The way I understand it is that each band got to pick a year and then had a choice of about 3 from that year. He's done the best he could. God knows what the other choices were!
